First tries at oil pastel

A few weeks ago I took an Oil Pastel workshop with Maureen McKee at the DuPage Art League. I'm looking for a new creative outlet, something completely different from my usual pencil/pen/ink/watercolor illustration... something to force me to loosen up. Well, it IS completely different! Just figuring out how color and value work is completely different. I have a lot to learn and I'm going to have to keep working with it, but here's one early attempt.

Wow! First try? That's great- I've never gotten the hang of working with oil pastels. It is a really beautiful work!

That's a good work, very nice! You should keep on doing it, you can make it better.

Very good in the distant part, just close part doesn't look close enough (depth of field, in other words)
I write children's books, BTW

This is very good. You should look up oil pastels from the late artist VON STUCK, your work was very similar to his. You got great talent!
